This year we took 6 sheep and 2 Jersey calves to the Kent County Show. We also entered a number of competitions including Round Bale pushing (which we were runners up in), Mock Stock Auction (which we won!), Scarecrow competition (which we also won!) and the It’s a Knockout challenge (which we did well in…).
Here are some photos from the weekend and the days of prep beforehand:
A number of Downies went along to Rosie’s farm to help with lambing. Although their were no lambs born whilst we were there, we helped the farmer get his shed in order – and we had a go on some of his machinery!
Aged between 15 and 26? Then you’re eligible to be a member of North Downs Young Farmers’ Club!
We’re a club of young people with an interest in the countryside and playing around outdoors. We meet regularly in and around the Maidstone area and always welcome new members!
Last year our events ranged from discos, bowling, talks, walks, model making and team building adventures to borrowing and showing animals at the Kent County Show. We even won the Maidstone River Festival raft race with our Space Invader -themed raft two years ago! Our events programme is diverse and has something for everyone.
This new website is under construction, but we hope it gives you a taste for what we get up to. Remember, you don’t have to be a farmer to be a young farmer (most of us aren’t!) – so get involved!
